I'm a Christian and I went to a place with a lot of history for Christianity, I needed to have that time of peace, of solitude, of being calm, of being able to reconnect with what I believe, with Jesus, to be able to reconnect, to be able to understand many things because I had a lot of doubts. It helped me a lot, I was able to stay calm, it gave me a lot of peace, I got the answers I wanted and made me want to face what was ahead. It was a really cool trip for me.

How fundamental was faith in your recovery?

It's been the key. I tried not to do it like that, but in the end it ends up reaching you through a friend, a brother, family... I try to open the umbrella and cover myself, but when they touch the family it's very annoying. It touches your wife, your father, your brothers... Maybe people can't reach you, but they know that touching your family can reach you. I'm going to tell you something to give dimension to what's happening. I remember one day having mate with my wife. I saw her face change when she looked at her phone and the tears fell. I asked him what he saw, what happened. “I don’t understand people’s evil, they are wishing our daughters dead,” he told me. When things get to this extent, you rethink a lot of things, you see how crazy society is or how crazy people are on social media. It may not come directly to you, but your family suffers from it, your mother and your wife suffer from it, your siblings too. They're going to have to learn, obviously, because that's the world we live in today, unfortunately, but it's difficult when it affects the family.

How was your family's support throughout the process?

It has been fundamental. My wife has been very brave because we have two very young daughters and she had the courage to be with them and give me the strength I needed. My parents and siblings also suffered a lot. I called my father to explain the decision I had made and he didn't really understand, they are rural people, tougher when it comes to feelings. It was difficult for him to understand, but I really liked it because at one point he told me that “whatever you do, I will support you”. It was really cool, really important, and I already made the decision. Also my wife's family, my mother-in-law, my brothers-in-law and some of my cousins. Everyone was fundamental in this process because I am surrounded by people I love and the important thing is that if they are with you, there is your core and you can close it.

Do you talk to the mental health experts you work with about whether there is a possibility of relapse?
