Rui Borges was elected Personality of the Year by More football. The Leo coach had a 2025 to remember for a long time and received the award in Alcochete, at the end of a sunny morning, just before traveling to Mirandela, to spend the Christmas season with his family. He left behind a remarkable year with titles, after being announced as Leo's coach on December 23rd and making his debut less than a week later, on the 29th, with a 1-0 victory that helped regain the lead in the League. That's why we entered the new year with a bang. «If you had told me that there would be a year like that, I would certainly say that I knew it would happen one day. It was a dream and I fought hard for it. Maybe I wasn't expecting it to happen so soon and so quickly, but I was confident it would happen", he said in brief statements of circumstances with the More football. «I'm happy because all these awards are recognition of our work as a technical team over these nine years. They are a sign of our competence. We believe a lot in ourselves, in our work and in the journey we took to get here.” Throughout the year, remember, Rui Borges lost the League Cup and Super Cup finals, but won the most important trophies: he was national champion and won the Portuguese Cup. Since arriving at Sporting, Rui Borges has played a total of 55 games in all official competitions, having won 36 of them, drawn 12 and lost seven. If they were all worth three points, the coach would have won 120 points out of a possible 165. «The feeling is happiness, just happiness. I'm a coach at Sporting, such a distinct, big club, with which I identify so much in terms of my values. Being able to do what I love most in a club like this and compete to win all competitions can only make me happy", said Rui Borges. «I'm well aware that we won't always win, but I have a lot of confidence in what we do, we believe a lot in what we do and we will certainly win more times than the times we won't win.
