The CAF (African Football Confederation) has already spoken out regarding the punishments to be applied following the chaotic CAN final between Senegal and Morocco, which ended with the Lions of Teranga winning, after a 1-0 victory in extra time. The organization decided to punish Pape Thiaw, coach of the Senegalese team, for unsportsmanlike conduct at the end of regulation time in the African Cup of Nations final, when he urged the players to leave the field after a penalty had been awarded against his team — the team would return to the pitch, Brahim Díaz would fail to convert from the 11 meter mark and a goal from Pape Gueye would give Senegal the trophy. The coach was suspended for five games and fined 100 thousand dollars (around 84 thousand euros). But he wasn't the only one. Senegalese forwards Iliman Ndiaye (Everton) and Ismaila Sarr (Crystal Palace), both playing in the Premier League, were suspended for two games in CAF competitions due to unsportsmanlike conduct towards the referee. Moroccan striker Ismael Saibari (PSV) was also punished for improper conduct, suspended for three games, and the captain of the Moroccan national team, Achraf Hakimi (PSG), who will not be able to represent his country in two international games in Africa. The Senegalese Football Federation was fined 615 thousand dollars (515 thousand euros) for various infractions, while the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) will have to pay 200 thousand dollars (167 thousand euros) for the inappropriate conduct of the ball-catchers.
