Ángel Di Maria was elected footballer of the year in Argentina, at the Olímpia Awards Gala, awarded annually according to votes by local journalists.

The current Rosario Central player, who left Benfica at the end of last season, overcame competition from Lautaro Martínez (Inter) and Leandro Paredes (Boca Juniors) in the Olímpia de Prata category.

The 37-year-old Argentine international scored seven goals in the 16 games he played for Rosario Central, which this year became Argentine champions at the secretariat, in a controversial decision taken by the Argentine Football Federation.

From the extensive list of winners, highlight is the Golden Olympia awarded to pilot Agustín Canapino, while the late Diego Armando Maradona, who passed away in 2020, was awarded the Infinite Olympia.
