Sidny Cabral needed half a season to leave his mark on Portuguese football. The above-average technical quality and versatility of the knife born in the Netherlands and international for Cape Verde are the calling card of Benfica's first winter reinforcement. Sidny Cabral, born in Rotterdam on September 18, 2002, was trained at Feyenoord and Twente, the upper class of Dutch football, but the beginning of his career as a senior was spent in the lower German ranks. Two and a half seasons after representing Erfurt in the fifth and fourth division, he followed Viktoria Koln, from the 3.Liga, where he transferred in January 2024. The increase in competitive level only enhanced the talent of the original right-back who shone brightly last season with eight goal contributions in 32 games. Sidny needed just 16 games with Estrela da Amadora to match those numbers, thanks to his unusual versatility. Sidny Cabral fit like a glove into a three-central system usually used by star players. His speed and ability to accelerate are a real nightmare for opponents, as can be said of Samuel Dahl, who struggled to contain the winger's verticality on August 16th. Cabral assisted Chernev for the best opportunity of the match for Estrela, in the 23rd minute and tested Trubin's attention by scoring a direct free kick, in the 55th minute, both using the left foot... the weaker one. The comfort of playing with both feet allows the Cape Verdean international to play on both side aisles with the same effectiveness. The first goal for Estrela did not come against the future club, but on the following day, against Alverca. Sidny Cabral was the author of an unbelievable goal when he scored a free kick in an area that was uninviting for shooting. The monument marked in front of the Ribatejo fans was a reflection of an excellent ability to execute set pieces, whether free kicks, corners, or penalties, which he scores... with his worst foot. Sidny Cabral scored three times with his left foot to convert maximum punishments, including two in Rio Maior, in an unlikely hat trick against Casa Pia (5-3), on November 1st. The offensive explosion contrasts with certain defensive weaknesses, masked by the support of the three star central defenders. Estrela's second most used player this season (1358 minutes), starting 15 of the 16 matches played, almost always played as a right winger. It was from this position that Sidny Cabral assisted Abraham Marcus for Estrela da Amadora's equalizer at the Estádio do Dragão, against FC Porto (1-3), on December 15th. The Cape Verdean international, however, has already played this season as a left winger and winger, on both sides. Despite his unquestionable versatility, occupying the right flank enhances the qualities of a player whose profile is scarce at Luz: effective crossing, exploration of depth at speed and offensive boldness. Sidny Cabral offers solutions both as a winger, faster than Aursnes or Sudakov, and as a lateral alternative to Dahl or Amar Dedic. There is the word José Mourinho, who from January onwards will have an athlete with a motor, established credits in setting set pieces and very versatile. The Eagles reached an agreement with Estrela da Amadora to guarantee the services of an undisputed player for both José Faria, who started the season at Reboleia, and João Nuno, who replaced him at the end of September, for around six million euros.
