Sporting lost this Tuesday at home to Poland's Warta Zawiercie, European runners-up, 3-0, in the second round of group D of the Champions League in volleyball. The Poles won in Lisbon, at Pavilhão João Rocha, by scores of 22-25, 24-26 and 20-25. With this result, Warta Zawiercie takes the lead of the group, with six points. Sporting remains in fourth and last place, still without points. In second and third place are, respectively, the Polish team Asseco Resovia and the German team Luneburg, both with three points. Only the leaders of each of the five groups qualify directly for the quarter-finals. The runners-up, together with the third best among all groups, have to compete in a play-off to reach the quarter-finals. Benfica beats Romanians and continues in Challenge In the men's Challenge Cup, Benfica received and beat the Romanian side Arcada Galati, 3-1, with the triumph in the “golden set” earning them passage to the round of 16 of the competition. The triumph was built with partial scores of 25-22, 19-25, 26-24 and 25-20, with the decision of the tie coming in the disputed “golden set”, won by Benfica 15-13. In the next phase, Benfica will play the winner of the duel between the Turkish side Altekma and the Dutch side Sliedrecht, who will face each other on Wednesday. The Turks have the upper hand after their 3-1 away win. Greeks defeat Sp. Braga In the women's Challenge Cup, Sporting de Braga lost 3-0 at home to Panathinaikos, in the first leg of the round of 16, with scores of 23-25, 32-34 and 17-25.
