Sporting lost 0-1 to Hammarby, at home, in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women's Europa Cup. The Lionesses' defensive solidity lasted 60 minutes against the Swedish team who had endless piles, despite playing their first official game in three months. Micael Sequeira bet on a mobile, but very solid team, which never let Hammarby take control of the first half. The Swedish physicality, however, created difficulties for the Leo players, especially on the right defensive flank. Hammarby tried to take advantage of the height difference between the two teams and create danger from set pieces, but the best they managed was to hit the post in the 20th minute. Captain Carlsson's already falling header started ten more lively minutes at both goals. Cancelinha, one of Sporting's most prominent units, denied Sorum the first of the match at 26', with a fundamental cut that intercepted the opponent's shot, and galvanized the Lionesses. Beatriz Fonseca offered the opening goal on a platter to Flor Bon Segundo who, in the heart of the penalty area, volleyed a shot inches from the bottom of Hammarby's net, The Swedish team finished the first half on a high note, but Hasund's mistake, in the 45th minute, resulted in a draw at half-time in a match that saw the presence of the national coach, Francisco Neto, in the stands at the Aurélio Pereira Stadium. The second 45 minutes started with greater Swedish momentum, but that again did not materialize into the goal celebration. Sporting increased the levels of sass and Jeneva Gray, the joker Micael Sequeira's all-terrain shot appeared in the shooting zone to shoot low, slightly wide of the Swedish goal, in the 61st minute. Hammarby were playing their first official game since November 20, 2025, but there was no shortage of legs in a team that took complete control of the match in the last half hour. Rehnberg, inside the small area, had an extra shot and hit the post in the 68th minute, but the Swedish goal was a matter of time. Sorum broke through the Leonine defensive line with a breakthrough pass to Lennartsson, who delivered a venomous cross into the heart of the area. Joramo, with all the calm in the world, shot for the first of the match, in the 69th minute. The goal conceded did not galvanize the Lionesses, who can thank Anna Wellmann and Hammarby's mistake for maintaining the deficit by the minimum margin. The green and white guardian denied Joramo's double in the 81st minute and left everything open for the second leg of the tie. Sporting and Hammarby will face each other again on Wednesday, starting at 6pm, in the second leg, in Sweden.
