The Confederation of African Football (CAF) opened an investigation into incidents that occurred during the games Algeria-Nigeria (0-2) and Cameroon-Morocco (0-2), counting for the CAN quarter-finals. The organization collected reports and videos from two games that indicate “potentially unacceptable behavior by some players and managers”. The CAF adds that it is also analyzing images of an incident that involved members of the press who allegedly behaved “inappropriately” in the mixed zone. It is recalled that during the game between Algeria and Nigeria, a hand touch by Nigerian Junior Ajayi in the area led to widespread confusion after the final whistle. Confusion ensued on the field, with several players and members of the technical teams exchanging aggressions, while the referee had to leave the pitch under escort. Some videos published on social media also show moments of tension between Algerian fans and security guards in the stands, as well as in the mixed zone, where security had to intervene to separate journalists who were involved in clashes. The Algerian Football Federation announced that it had filed a complaint with FIFA and CAF regarding the refereeing team's decisions. This complaint was accompanied by a request for an investigation to determine what happened. Although there were fewer cases, the game between Morocco and Cameroon also provoked the indignation of Cameroonian players and officials, who criticized the referee for not having signaled an alleged penalty against Bryan Mbeumo, a Manchester United player.
