Santos president Marcelo Teixeira confirmed that Gabigol is back at the club. The leader of «Peixe» spoke to journalists this Friday, upon leaving the training center, and revealed that the ex-Benfica striker is expected to undergo medical examinations. “We are waiting for routine medical examinations. It's important because Gabriel has an identity with the club and he has always shown, at least since December, his desire to return. He is an identified player who, by demonstrating his desire to return, we realize that he is focused, prepared and determined to help in a challenging, difficult year, with many competitions. We need athletes determined not to be there just by name, but to collaborate and contribute with the quality they have so that Santos can have good campaigns», said Marcelo Teixeira. According to the Brazilian press, the 29-year-old striker will be loaned by Cruzeiro, with an option to buy. Gabigol was trained at Santos, where he left in 2016, to join Inter Milan. After spells in Italy and Portugal, he returned to «Peixe» in 2018. The Santos president also spoke about the renewal with Neymar, who had a contract until June, the time of the World Cup, but agreed to stay at the club until the end of 2026. «We didn't have any difficulties because the understanding was more at least along those lines. The initial idea was until the middle of the year and we, together, found that common denominator that is good for Santos.” Neymar, 33, played 28 games for Santos last year, having scored 11 goals and four assists.
