Fernando Madureira's lawyer commented on the release of the former leader of the Super Dragons, who reached the preventive detention limitthis following the decision of the Porto Court of Appeal, that this Friday reduced «Monkey's» sentence to three years and four months, within the scope of Operation Praetorian. «This decision occurred due to excessive coercive measures, since the maximum period was two years. It could only be extended if the sentence ordered by the court was higher, which did not happen because the Porto Court of Appeal decided to reduce the sentence to three years and four months", explained Miguel Marques Oliveira, upon leaving the prison attached to the Porto Judiciary Police. The lawyer stressed, however, that «Macaco» could return to prison, depending on the next developments in the case. “There may be the possibility [de voltar à prisão] or there may not be, depending on how the process unfolds. Regarding the sentence he was sentenced to, in the first instance and now in the Court of Appeal, remember that he has already served half of his sentence, so he may not have to return to the prison,” he added. Although Madureira was convicted, the decision has not yet become final, and the possibility of appealing the sentence remains. The former leader of the Super Dragões was subject to less serious coercive measures, having to report to the authorities twice a week and being unable to attend sports venues.
