The 18 called up by Paulo Jorge Pereira for the EHF Euro 2026 handball are now known. Through social media and in a statement, the Portuguese Handball Federation (FPA) states that four of the athletes chosen by the selector are still in the competitive period or in the recovery phase. António Machado, João Lourenço, Guilherme Tavares and Diogo Silva thus temporarily replace Luís Frade, Miguel Neves, Francisco Costa and João Gomes in the group's work. Diogo Rêma is largely absent from the National Team, due to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The FC Porto goalkeeper has, however, undergone successful surgery and is now undergoing a recovery period. In preparation for the tournament, Portugal will hold an internship that will take place between December 28th and January 12th. In between, the «Heroes of the Sea» face Egypt (January 8) and Iran (January 9), in the Spanish International Tournament that precedes the start of the competition. Remember that Portugal is part of Group B of the European Championship, which takes place in Denmark, Sweden and Norway, together with Romania, North Macedonia and precisely the Danish team. Paulo Jorge Pereira's men arrive on the scene on January 16th (Romania), at 5pm. (updating)
