Sporting reacted, this Wednesday, to the ruling of the Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) on the case of television in Fábio Veríssimo's locker room, during half-time at FC Porto-Sp. Braga. In a statement, the lions expressed “deep astonishment” at having only been a fine of 12,750 euros was imposed on FC Porto. In the opinion of the lions, the FPF CD's decision «represents a gigantic setback in the defense of referees and in the evolution of Portuguese football». «The sanction applied is blatantly disproportionate to the severity of the episode. This is the most serious case known of an attempt to resurrect old practices, completely contrary to what Sporting considers to be the path to the future of Portuguese football", reads the lions' note. Sporting also criticizes the FPF. «The FPF had a unique opportunity to make a difference and prevent episodes like this from happening again, but, regrettably, it ignored it.» It is recalled that, at the time, the referee of FC Porto-Sp. Braga denounced that at half-time, images were shown on a loop on television of a disallowed goal for the blue and whites in the first half of the game and that the same images were shown after the match, in addition to others, of an alleged error, relating to a youth game between FC Porto and Benfica and in which Veríssimo had been involved.
