This Wednesday, Athletic Bilbao beat Valencia (2-1) and Real Sociedad beat Alavés (3-2), in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey of Spain, joining the already qualified FC Barcelona in the semi-finals. Valencia's Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq was the protagonist of the first half, scoring an own goal in the 26th minute, but redeeming himself in the 35th minute, leaving the match level at half-time. In the second half, the Williams brothers took on the 'main role', after being thrown onto the field, with Nico assisting Iñaki, at 90+6m, to give the Basque team a tangential victory. On Valencia's side, Portuguese midfielder André Almeida was an unused substitute, while compatriot Thierry Correia was left out due to injury. The duel between Alavés and Real Sociedad was also full of emotions, with the uncertainty in the result remaining until the referee's final whistle, but the 'man of the match' was the Portuguese Gonçalo Guedes, from the San Sebastian team, with a goal and an assist, and the 'goal celebration' began after just eight minutes, with Algerian striker Abderrahmane Rebbach opening the scoring for the hosts. Then, at 15m, Guedes assisted Mikel Oyarzabal for the equalizer, but striker Toni Martínez (ex-FC Porto) put Alavés ahead again, at 29m, with a penalty. In the second half, at 67m, Martínez hit again from the 11 meter mark, but missed, and it was Gonçalo Guedes who found the net, at 76m, before Icelandic Orri Oskarsson scored the third for the visiting team, stamping the 'ticket' to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey. Barcelona, holder of the trophy and record holder of achievements, with 32, had already guaranteed their passage to the semi-finals on Tuesday, with a 2-1 victory on their visit to Albacete, an 'executioner' in Real Madrid's previous round. All that remains is to define the fourth club that will compete in the semi-finals of the 126th edition of the Copa del Rey, which will come from the match between Betis and Atlético de Madrid, scheduled for Thursday, in Seville.
