Portuguese triathlete Pedro Gaspar was suspended for three years, after testing positive for mesterolone, after finishing eighth in the Mediterranean Championship, the International Testing Agency (ITA) reported this Monday. In a statement, the agency explains what happened. «The ITA, on behalf of World Triathlon, confirms that triathlete Pedro Gaspar has accepted the consequences for his violation of anti-doping rules», it can be read. According to the ITA, the Portuguese athlete tested positive for mesterolone, an anabolic steroid banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. The test sample was collected on June 29, 2025, when Pedro Gaspar was participating in the Mediterranean Triathlon Championship. According to the international testing agency, the three-year sanction runs between July 31, 2025 and July 30, 2028. Furthermore, the ITA states that the triathlete's individual results are annulled from the date of sample collection until the beginning of his provisional suspension, on July 31, 2025.
