The Mayor of Porto said, this Friday, that Boavista's situation is "very worrying", but that the municipality has already done "everything" at this stage for the club that has "an unequivocal value in the city". «In fact, it is a very important club, from a historical and even social point of view, in the city, and it has a very significant group of thousands of young people who play sport, have physical activity, through Boavista. It has an unequivocal value in the city. We are very concerned about the situation, we are constantly monitoring it, from the first minute», explained Pedro Duarte. The mayor was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a visit to a new garden in the parish of Ramalde, having highlighted the role of the chamber as an “absolutely collaborative” entity in the moment Boavista is experiencing, an emblem of which the municipality is one of the creditors. The Porto club failed to deposit 53,680 euros to cover current expenses this month, as well as another 96,000 euros, the first of three installments to settle overdue debts, leading the insolvency administrator, Maria Clarisse Barros, to announce that she will begin steps to close the activity. Considering that it is not up to the local authority to «disturb the normal functioning» of the process that goes through the 'checkered' emblem, whose insolvency may be decided soon, at this stage, said Pedro Duarte, they cannot «do more than this». After an insolvency decision, there will be “a different phase, in which the chamber will have an intervention of a different nature”. «We have helped in every way and then some, the club recognizes that. Just yesterday [quinta-feira] I spoke to the president, I have done so regularly. I have to salute your stance, you have shown enormous gratitude and gratitude for what the municipality has tried to do. Let's see if we can save Boavista and help these young people and children», he says. As a «small, compared to others» creditor, he has recognized the historic role of the club, national men's football champion in 2000/01, and «collaborated and given every opportunity for the club to recover and save itself», the latter an expression that is “stronger, but more realistic, probably”. According to the application sent by the insolvency administrator, Maria Clarisse Barros, to the Commercial Court of Vila Nova de Gaia, Boavista failed to deposit 53,680 euros, to cover its current expenses this month, and 96,000 euros, relating to the January installment, the first of three intended to regularize overdue and non-regularized debts. After having deposited 55,000 euros on December 22, 2025, corresponding to its current monthly expenses, Boavista would have to pay creditors in January, February and March, always by the 10th, another 96,000 euros, plus the amount indicated by the insolvency administrator to cover each month's expenses. As the 'panthers' defaulted, Maria Clarisse Barros announced that she will immediately begin steps to close the club's activity, without needing to call the creditors' meeting again. On December 16, the Porto club, which has not had an active senior football team for two and a half months, had reached an agreement with creditors in court to maintain its activity, under the commitment to cover the current operating deficit. Two days later, Boavista launched a public fundraising campaign, with four forms of participation, from 40 to 40,000 euros, which helped to settle last month's tranche in a timely manner. The insolvency administrator had already asked the court two months ago to close Boavista's activity - whose liquidation was approved in September -, as it was generating losses for the insolvent estate, with the consequent accumulation of debts. The club holds 10% of the share capital of SAD, which was supposed to compete in the II League in 2025/26, but no longer had a professional team in the summer and was administratively relegated to the main echelon of the Porto Football Association, in which it is 18th and last placed, playing as host at Parque Desportivo de Ramalde, 2.5 kilometers from the Bessa Stadium, unused since May.
