The American Lindsey Vonnwho suffered a heavy fall on Sunday in alpine alpine skiing in Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Gamesrevealed that he suffers from a multiple fracture of the tibia that will require more operations than those already carried out and that the injury to the cruciate ligament in his left knee had nothing to do with his tragic farewell.
“Yesterday my Olympic dream didn’t end as I had dreamed. It wasn’t a fairytale ending, it was just life. I dared to dream and I worked hard to achieve it. Because in alpine skiing the difference between a strategic line and a catastrophic injury can be as small as 12 centimeters”, he commented in a post on his Instagram.
Vonn, who competed at age 41 despite having a right knee made of titanium and having suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament on her left side while descending the World cup of Crans Montana (Switzerland)suffered a spectacular accident thirteen seconds into this Olympic event.
Lindsey Vonn was evacuated by helicopter after falling on the descent
“I was just five inches short of the line when my right arm caught on the inside of the door, which spun me around and caused me to fall. My ACL and previous injuries had nothing to do with my fall,” he clarified.
“Unfortunately, I suffered a complex fracture to my tibia which is currently stable but will require several operations to heal properly,” he revealed.
The skier from St. Paul (Minnesota), who has 84 World Cup victories, 45 of them downhill, does not regret her decision.
“Although yesterday didn’t end as I expected, and despite the intense physical pain it caused me, I have no regrets. Being at the start yesterday was an incredible feeling that I will never forget. Knowing that I was there with the opportunity to win was a victory in itself. I also knew that competing was a risk. It always has been and always will be an incredibly dangerous sport”, he commented.
