Álvaro Pacheco, coach of Casa Pia, speaking on Sport TV's Flash Interview, after the 3-0 defeat against Sporting, in the 18th round of the League.

Sporting's first goal collapsed the team

«Yes, I agree a little with that analysis, but I think we were that team again in the second half. I think that, with the five training sessions we had, with changes in habits, changes in routines and behaviors at a collective level, which were required during that week and worked on in training, we looked at this game as a way of testing these ideas in just five training sessions against Sporting. I think my players gave a great response at the beginning of the game. We did very well controlling the interior space, which is a space that Sporting likes to take advantage of, the fantastic depth control and also the control of the lateral corridors, where Sporting is very strong in these corridors for acceleration and crossing. And we, in these 35 minutes, controlled it very well, and until the first goal, Sporting had created an opportunity. During this period, perhaps, we needed to be a little more bold when leaving; We were able to get out, but we couldn't take the game to where we wanted, to the attacking midfield. And then, Sporting's first goal, when we lost the ball, a slip. And then the second goal too, a slip, a deep ball, which left us a little until the end of the first half. But I think the second half was a different second half than the first, in which we managed to balance, we managed to share, we managed to create opportunities. We also managed to create, in our offensive process, some discomfort for Sporting. And Sporting ends up scoring the third goal, another loss of the ball for us. Sporting is in transition and they are very strong. Manages to score the third goal. Without a doubt, the victory goes to Sporting, congratulations to Sporting and also congratulations to Rui Borges, who, without a doubt, has done an excellent job here at Sporting. What I have to understand is that in this game, we have to be realistic. At this moment, with five training sessions in the middle of our championship, I saw very interesting things. Our focus and our main objective must be, next week, to continue the work and focus on the next game.”

Line of three centers

«We have to start from a starting point, and that starting point also involves taking advantage of some of the work developed by my previous colleagues. So this is the starting point. From here, depending on the growth of our team and the players' understanding of the game, I will start to launch new challenges and create other variables in our game. But, without a doubt, our starting point will be this way of being. This has to do with our DNA and our identity. It will be from here.”

Return to Portuguese football

«It's always good to return to Portugal, to our football and to our championship, which is extremely competitive. Without a doubt, I was abroad and could see the quality that exists here in our football. This project is a project not only for the present, but also with a very clear vision for the future. Without a doubt, looking at this project, the ambition I have, the people involved in this process and the DNA of Casa Pia, it was an easy decision to return to Portuguese football. I really believe that we will be very happy.”
