David Neres, a former Benfica striker who currently represents Napoli, will undergo surgery on his left ankle, to resolve a tendon problem, and is expected to be sidelined for around two months. The information was provided by the newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which explains that the decision to proceed with surgery was taken by the Brazilian international after consulting a specialist in London. Neres was injured on January 4th during Napoli's victory at Lazio (2-0) in the Italian League. When he stepped into a hole in the pitch, he twisted his ankle and left the Rome Olympian leaning on crutches. The 28-year-old winger attempted a return to the pitch ten days later, against Parma (0-0). Launched into the game by Antonio Conte in the 58th minute, he worsened the problem and ended up being replaced near the end by Lorenzo Lucca. Since then, Neres has undergone several treatments on his left ankle, without success. The operation should leave him out of combat until next March.
