Darron Lee, former New York Jets player in the NFL, could face the death penalty in the trial in which he is accused of murdering his girlfriend, in the state of Tennessee, according to North American television station WTVC. The violence of crime supports this possibility. The former athlete, now 31 years old, was arrested last week, in the city of Chattanooga, for allegedly killing his partner, Gabriella Carvalho Perpétuo, and tampering with evidence of the crime. In the court where Lee appeared before a judge, this Wednesday, the prosecutors in charge of the case revealed that they found blood "in almost every room of the house" in which the crime was committed. “There was blood running down the staircase, on the banister, on the walls, on the living room floor, on the hallway floor and on the stairs... There was blood in practically every room,” testified one of the detectives. The autopsy carried out on the victim's body revealed severe head trauma, a broken neck, bruises all over the body and even bite marks on the shoulder and thigh, in addition to stab wounds to the legs and injuries to the face. Lee, who when he contacted authorities to go to his former girlfriend's house claimed that she suffered from narcolepsy to try to explain her death, will remain detained, without the possibility of bail, until at least March 9, the date of the next trial session. The record of the former American football player, who had a career in the NFL, between 2016 and 2020, with the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills franchises, includes an accusation of assault and domestic violence, in 2023. According to the North American press, Darron Lee was on parole after being accused of assault with a weapon in Florida, having moved to Tennessee, where he is from, without the approval of the agent responsible for his case.
