After two defeats and a draw in the first three games, using players from the under-20s, Flamengo had a very complicated life in the Campeonato Carioca, but they turned to the main team and the strategy worked: last night, Mengão beat Vasco, 1-0. At Maracanã, Filipe Luís was already on the bench and presented an eleven close to maximum strength – Andrew, formerly of Gil Vicente, has not yet been on the game sheet, as have Arrascaeta, Danilo or Jorginho. Flamengo was on top and made life easier with the expulsion of Cauan Barros, in the 51st minute. The only goal of the match, however, only came in the 69th minute, through a great kick from Colombian Jorge Carrascal. Two minutes later, the Portuguese Nuno Moreira was replaced at Vasco, which was already without Rayan, the main figure from last season, who is on his way to Bournemouth. With this triumph, Flamengo now adds four points to Carioca and moves up to third place in Group B, which already gives access to the quarter-finals. For the next round, against São Paulo, there is doubt as to the possibility of using under-20 players again. Vasco is third in Group A, also with four points.
