At 39 years old, Steven Vitória announced the end of his career, in a post on social media. The international A central defender for Canada, the country where he was born, on 46 occasions, won the championship, Taça de Portugal and Taça da Liga with Benfica, in 2014, having participated in the final phase of a World Cup (2022). Steven Vitória arrived in 2005, for FC Porto's B team, being loaned by the Dragons to Tourizense, Olhanense (for which he was champion of the II League) and Covilhã. He went to Estoril in 2010/2011, before heading to Benfica. Two spells abroad followed: Philadelphia Union and Lechia Gdansk. In 2019/2020, he returned to Portuguese football through Moreirense and also represented Chaves and Boavista, before hanging up his boots. «I would like, first of all, to thank you for your support and solidarity with the causes of the Players' Union, as well as the way you have always welcomed our team at all the clubs you have been to. Throughout your career you have been an example of integrity and resilience. Players like you are missed in football. You are an ambassador for Portugal in the world and your journey with the Canadian team deserves to be praised for the effort between clubs and the national team. At the same time, you invested in post-career preparation. I am sure that you will be successful in whatever you decide to do", reacted Joaquim Evangelista, president of the Players' Union.
