Welcome to the works elevated to the public domain on January 1, 2026. Just to remind you, every January 1st, a huge set of films, music, books and other creations are promoted to the public domain. This means that they can be used by anyone without the need to ask for authorization. You can re-record, publish, distribute, remix, adapt and much more. The public domain of 2026 is breathtaking. By US law, there is a magnificent body of works that have become ours. In literature, we have the entire Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. Or even, the impactful poem "Ash Wednesday" by TS Eliot, which marks his religious conversion and abandonment of nihilism. We also have the German edition of Civilization and Its Discontents by Sigmund Freud (the late psychoanalyst MD Magno, who we lost in 2025, would like it). In terms of characters, the first version of Betty Boop entered the public domain. In addition, the first version of Pluto (which was still called "Rover", before its name was later changed) is now also part of the glorious public domain. In cinema we have gems. The seminal film No News on the Front is now ours (in fact, it's a good time to review it and remember its anti-war message). We also have The Golden Age by Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dali, a landmark in surrealist cinema. Or even, The Blue Angel that projected Marlene Dietrich internationally with the unforgettable character Lola Lola. The musical selection is perfect to fall in love with at the beginning of the year. We have the composition of Georgia in My Mind promoted to the public domain. Or even, the wonderful Dream a Little Dream of Me. From the Gershwin brothers we have I Got Rhythm, I Got a Crush on You and But Not For Me. They are enough to generate many collective sighs from here to eternity. In terms of recordings, we have Bessie Smith singing along with Louis Armstrong the song St. Louis Blues. And also Louis Armstrong singing If I Lose, Let me Lose (Mama Don't Mind). In terms of works of art, we have Piet Mondrian with his Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow promoted to the public domain (t-shirts and mugs are released). And a work of special importance for us Brazilians: the Jules Rimet Cup, created by Abel Lafleur. Brazil won the trophy with great difficulty, which was stolen from the CBF headquarters and destroyed. The cup now returns to us all. We can recreate as many Jules Rimet as we want. This includes the delicious composition of Falsa Baiana by Geraldo Pereira. Or the beautiful cries of Garoto (Aníbal Augusto Sardinha). In addition, the complete works of Ataulfo de Paiva and Amadeu de Queiroz. And of course, Carmen Miranda, who died in 1955, also has her part in works such as Os Home Implica Comigo in the public domain. But be careful, the composition was made with Pixinguinha, which has not yet been placed in the public domain. It's worth waiting! It was already – a world without prediction markets It already is – prediction markets predicting the outcome of elections It's coming – prediction markets predicting the carrying out of military operations LINK PRESENT: Did you like this text?
