Portuguese Agate Sousa won the long jump at the Madrid indoor track and field athletics meeting this Friday, with 6.97 meters. With this mark, she reached the world leadership at the time, after surpassing Colombian Natalia Linares by two centimeters. Also in the spotlight was Sofia Lavreshina, who was ranked first in the B final, third overall in the two races. The Portuguese broke the national record for the 400 meters on a short track, which improved to 52.07 seconds. José Carlos Pinto was fourth in the three thousand meters – the best European – with 7.40.87 minutes. This result allows him to move up to the third best Portuguese player of all time, behind the current record holder, Isaac Nader, and the previous one, Rui Silva. Patrícia Silva, in turn, was eighth in the 1500 meters, with 4.08.83 minutes. David Landim, the only Portuguese sprinter present in Madrid, finished fourth in series 2 of the 60 meters, with 6.72 seconds, a tenth of the personal best.
